Caring for the Environment

The children have been learning about how to care for their environment as well as growth of plants. One of the words of the month is ‘photosynthesis’ and the children have been learning how say the word as well as understand its meaning.

The children now know that when plants soak up sunshine and suck up water from their roots, just like how they drink through straws, the plants will grow and become green. Photosynthesis in its simplest form for 2-4 year olds. We have had a couple of parents come in to plant bulbs and seeds with the children.

The children used their motor skills and practical life skills to scoop the soil and transfer into the pots. They used their understanding of the world knowledge to look after the pots and water them regularly so that the flowers and plants will grow, if they don’t, the seeds won’t grow and the plants will die.
